From Renée Zellweger's office stint to Tom Holland's high school adventure, celebrities have gone 'undercover' for various reasons. Explore the surprising ways these stars have embraced anonymity, for research, personal curiosity, or even a bit of fun.

You may have fantasized about what it's like to be famous, but plenty of celebrities have fantasized about what it's like to *be* famous. Some of them have even acted those daydreams out, whether it's in preparation for a role or for personal reasons. Actress Renée Zellweger took on a temporary 'normal' life as part of her research for the role of Bridget Jones. She worked in a publishing office, reading newspaper clippings and filing them under Helen Fielding's name.

She even experienced the attention surrounding the casting of an 'American actor' for the role of Mark Darcy, a character she was playing. Actress Aubrey Plaza, known for her deadpan humor, once tried to be 'undercover' while playing basketball. She joined a women's recreational team, the Pistol Shrimps, but was later rejected when she tried to play for her sister's team, the Spice Sqirls. Determined to play, she disguised herself with a blonde wig and goggles, believing she could go unnoticed. However, her plan backfired when she tore her ACL during a game, drawing unwanted attention to her. Eventually, she was traded to the Spice Sqirls live on ESPN. Tom Holland, best known for his role as Spider-Man, went undercover as a student at The Bronx High School of Science in 2016. He shadowed a real student named Arun Bishop, pretending to be his cousin Ben. While initially intended to be a joke, Marvel took the idea seriously, and Holland spent a day experiencing typical life as a high school student. He admitted to feeling 'very embarrassing' when teachers would call on him and ask questions, not knowing he wasn't a true student. He even tried to reveal his identity to a classmate but was met with disbelief. Kevin Bacon, known for his roles in films like 'Footloose,' has gone undercover twice. First, he spent a day at a high school to prepare for his role as Ren McCormack in the film. He dressed and acted like the character, experiencing firsthand the challenges and interactions of teenage life. Later, he went to a mall in Los Angeles with a prosthetic disguise, wearing glasses, a fake nose, and fake teeth. He found the experience unpleasant, missing the recognition and attention that came with being famous
