A call for change among a moment of somber peace as a celebration of life took place for Gavin Peterson, the 12-year-old boy who died from alleged abuse.
“Like everybody said, he always had a smile on his face,” said a speaker. West Haven mother Shay Hansen said her daughter went to school with him.People at the park wrote notes and shared stories in honor of the young boy, later singing songs and lighting candles as the evening got darker.“We need change, this shouldn’t have happened,” Hansen said.
DCFS responds to protesters demanding transparency in child welfare caseHe said it’s a good thing people are taking note to keep an eye on one another moving forward.With many reflecting on the change, some also came for healing.West Haven City Council was in an unrelated meeting Wednesday, and those members stopped by to pay their respects as well.
