I will never fully get into or understand Nia’s and Layla’s favorites like Latto and GloRilla, just like they can’t understand Busta Rhymes. But during the BET Awards, we all danced.
Rah Digga and Busta Rhymes performed during a tribute in Busta's honor at the BET Awards on June 25 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.Last month, Layla, Nia and I watched the BET Awards. Most of the performers were artists that I knew of but cared little about; what I tuned in for were the tributes to a cultural niche turned global phenomenon — hip-hop.
It’s hard to believe that I grew up alongside a burgeoning genre. We were in Dallas by the time hip-hop started to spread across across radio playlists and movie screens, but its explosion was still exciting to behold.
