Cebu province reported its biggest single-day increase in new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday with 23 people getting sick with the virus.
Of the 23 new cases, 21 came from Sitio Zapatera in the city's Barangay Luz, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella said in a virtual press conference.
Of the remaining two cases, one was from Barangay Mambaling, while the other was from Barangay Guadalupe.Dr. Junjie Zuasola of the Department of Health's Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit in Central Visayas earlier said that they were expecting a surge in the number of coronavirus cases because there is now a"massive" testing of people showing symptoms in the province.
Across the Philippines, the total number of COVID-19 cases is 5,453, with 349 deaths and 353 recoveries. The country on Wednesday recorded more recoveries than fatalities for the first time in almost a month.
