After the CBS-Viacom re-merger, the network is weighing offers for its Black Rock headquarters
... [+]magazine called legendary CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite “The Sage of Black Rock”, a moniker earned from the network’s formidable Sixth Avenue headquarters, designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen.
Black Rock was nearly sold in 2000 when Sumner Redstone’s Viacom acquired CBS. By 2006, the companies split apart, until this month. CBS’s $25 billion re-merger with Viacom brings a reported $500 million savings as well as CBS, Paramount studios, Comedy Central and MTV under one roof. But apparently, that roof won’t be Black Rock, as it’s no longer in the Eye Network’s sights....
Steps from the Museum of Modern Art at 51 West 52nd Street, the corporate monolith features a sunken plaza , 24,000-square-foot, column-free floor plates, a façade of vertical single-pane windows, and Nusr-Et Steakhouse—famous for Turkish chef Salt Bae’s theatrical antics. The building only houses CBS’s corporate and administrative divisions. Other tenants include Charles Schwab and UBS.
