U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized over $150,000 worth of brown and black tar heroin during a secondary vehicle inspection at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge on Wednesday.

BROWNSVILLE, Texas - U.S. Customs And Border Protection officers have seized over $150,000 worth of brown and black tar heroin in a major smuggling bust.
On Wednesday, Jan. 15, a 2000 model-year Chevrolet was attempting to cross the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge into the U.S. when it was referred for secondary inspection. While in the secondary inspection area, CBP officers using a non-intrusive inspection system, as well as a K-9 officer, discovered .31 pounds of alleged brown heroin, and 9.06 pounds of black tar heroin.
“Our CBP officers conduct their inspections using different enforcement tools and their efforts yielded this significant narcotics seizure,” Port Director Tater Ortiz, Brownsville Port of Entry said.The narcotics, as well as the vehicle, were seized by CBP officers. Homeland Security Investigations is looking into the attempted smuggling.
