U.S. Customs and Border Protection ( CBP ) officers working at the Laredo Port of Entry made a significant drug bust over the weekend, confiscating over $498,000 worth of cocaine. The seizure occurred when a CBP officer flagged a 2020 Honda CR-V SUV for a more thorough inspection. During this secondary examination, officers uncovered 15 packages containing a total of 37 pounds of suspected cocaine concealed within the vehicle.

'The experience and determination of our frontline CBP officers, coupled with the effective utilization of non-intrusive inspection system technology, led to the interception of this cocaine shipment,' stated Port Director Albert Flores of the Laredo Port of Entry. The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is $498,940. In addition to the drugs, CBP authorities seized the vehicle involved in the smuggling operation. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents took custody of the driver, a 70-year-old Mexican national, and a 49-year-old male Mexican citizen who was traveling as a passenger in the vehicle
