The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines released on Friday the full text of a special prayer for rain amid the relentless El Niño gripping Southeast Asia, which triggered declarations of states of calamity in various parts of the country recently.
“We are respectfully sending the text of the Oratio Imperata Ad Petendam Pluviam prepared by the Episcopal Commission on Liturgy , for your consideration and use according to your pastoral discretion,” the CBCP said in a letter dated May 3. Churchgoing Filipinos can expect this ‘obligatory prayer to ask for rain’ to be recited in masses. The heads of a Catholic archdiocese or diocese will lead this prayer seeking relief from the Lord against the extreme heat.
Based on the five-day computed and two-day forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric and Geophysical Services Administration as of 5 PM on Friday, 30 areas will remain under dangerous heat index by Saturday, May 4. Highest temperatures are projected in Dagupan City, Pangasinan ; Aparri, Cagayan ; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte .
