And fortunately there was no war, famine or pestilence – though in Dallas’ case, injury, suspension and a raging stomach bug are plenty depleting., but then came word that Kyrie Irving would be the seventh Maverick this season to miss a game with illness. All of which made Cleveland’s 134-122 victory utterly predictable. The East Beast Cavaliers broke open the game with a 20-0 first-half run, won their ninth straight game and extended Dallas’ losing streak to a season-high-tying four.“You look at their ball movement, they kind of remind you of Boston and Memphis,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said of the Cavs, adding that their big-man tandem of 6-11 Jarrett Allen and 6-11 Evan Mobley are reminiscent of the Spurs’ Tim Duncan-David Robinson ‘90s power duo. Cleveland led by 27 points midway through the third quarter, but with Quentin Grimes scoring 24 of his 26 points in the second half, the Mavericks made a gritty run, drawing as close as 118-106 with 6:56 left, but not getting the margin to single-digits until a Markieff Morris 3-pointer with 1:16 remaining.
