TheBatman star Zoë Kravitz says Catwoman is the only superhero role she has considered playing since XMen: First Class hit theaters in 2011. 'I think there's an authenticity and an edge to her that I'm drawn to.'
The Batman star Zoë Kravitz says that Catwoman is the only superhero character she has considered since her X-Men role. The Batman is the next installment in Warner Bros. DC franchise, replacing Ben Affleck with Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. The film is said to take place outside of the DCEU, allowing Matt Reeves to recast several characters, such as Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
The Batman is one of the biggest films of Kravitz's career, but she previously broke into the superhero genre in 2011 with X-Men: First Class. Kravitz played Angel Salvadore, who is recruited by Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr in the prequel. While initially agreeing to help Division X, Angel later switches sides and devotes her loyalty to Sebastian Shaw and the Hellfire Club. Angel survived the events of X-Men: First Class and was later killed off-screen.
"I really think that Catwoman would have been the only [superhero character] that I would ever consider, just because I feel really connected to her emotionally and also aesthetically. I think there's an authenticity and an edge to her that I'm drawn to." Fox's X-Men franchise ran for 20 years, beginning with X-Men in 2000 and ending with the lackluster The New Mutants in 2020. After Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, Marvel Head Kevin Feige quickly announced that the MCU would eventually introduce the X-Men. Up until the most recent Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer, it was widely believed all of the X-Men characters would be recast when they joined the MCU, except for Deadpool.
While Disney may see potential in bringing back actors like Ian McKellen or Hugh Jackman, it seems unlikely Kravitz's Angel Salvadore would be brought back in the MCU. And that might be for the best. Kravitz will become an even more well-known actress after The Batman is released, and if the film is a success, Disney may be interested in casting her in a different role in the MCU.
