Chair of the school’s board of governors said the situation was ‘deeply disappointing’
The chair of the body which represents Catholic schools in NI has admitted one of its members failed to declare an interest as part of proposals to close a Co Tyrone primary school.
The member voted to ratify the CCMS proposal while sitting on the Education Authority committee, and failed to declare their membership of the other committee. “CCMS has refused to engage with us directly on multiple occasions, facilitating only one meeting with officials who had no decision making powers and were unable to provide proper advice relating to their own organisational governance.
“The revelation of a conflict of interest in the proposal to close St Mary's Primary School in Fivemiletown is very concerning,” Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew said. “This adds to the growing concern within the wider community that this proposal is fundamentally flawed, and should be withdrawn.”
