In light of the national charter school boom, the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City has proposed to introduce a Catholic and virtual charter school - critics are not happy.

."And so we recognize that if we're going to meet those needs, then leveraging technology is probably going to be the best way to do that.", a case in Maine regarding state-funded tuition assistance to non-religious private schools. The program was meant to help families in sparsely populated areas provide accessible education for their child. The court said that to exclude religious private schools from this program was discrimination.
Charter school advocates, however, say that it's the message they're the most concerned about. The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools said a Catholic charter school goes against some of the main principles of"All charter schools are public schools," said Nina Rees, the group's president."And in that sense, they cannot teach religion. They have to abide by the First Amendment or the establishment clause of the First Amendment.
