Ryan O'Rourke is a dedicated film and television writer with a passion for horror, sitcoms, and animation of all kinds.

Hollywood lost an icon earlier this year with the tragic death of Canadian star Catherine O'Hara at the age of 71. From her comedic roots on the sketch show SCTV to defining roles in Beetlejuice, Home Alone, and Best in Show, and the sitcom that finally won her a pair of Emmys, Schitt's Creek, she left behind a career of incredible achievements that entertained generations.

Before her death, though, she was able to get in one last truly great role as Patty Leigh, a play on producer Amy Pascal and the former studio head giving way to Seth Rogen's Matt Remick in The Studio. For her turn, O'Hara has now posthumously received the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series at the Actor Awards. O'Hara faced stiff competition in the comedy category of the Screen Actors Guild's accolades this year. She's the first actor to dethrone Jean Smart, who has claimed the award every year she's been nominated for HBO's Hacks. It also marks a bit of redemption for the star, given that another Hacks standout, Hannah Einbinder, came out on top at the Emmys. O'Hara's fellow The Studio colleague Kathryn Hahn was also in the race, having also been an Emmy contender. Jenna Ortega and Kristen Wiig rounded out the nominees with their respective sophomore outings in Wednesday and Palm Royale, yet despite the buzz for their respective series, neither could quite contend with the late actress and her excellent final bow on-screen. With her Actor Award win, O'Hara also made history, becoming the first actress to win a posthumous individual honor at the event and the third actor ever to do so, following Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight in 2009 and Chadwick Boseman for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom in 2021. She's also the first television actor ever to be individually honored after her death. Beyond being one final hurrah for one of the comedic greats, it's another badge of honor for The Studio, which scooped up 13 Emmys last year. The Apple TV hit had five nominations at the Actor Awards between O'Hara, Hahn, Rogen, Ike Barinholtz, and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. How Will 'The Studio' Season 2 Address O'Hara's Death? The success of The Studio with both critics and audiences unsurprisingly earned the series a renewal for Season 2, with filming beginning toward the end of January, shortly before O'Hara's death. At this point, there's been no word about how the series will adjust without the actress around to play Matt's mentor, though the cast and crew were among those honoring the late star. While Season 1 followed Matt's attempts to run a legacy Hollywood studio by trying to find the right balance between art and business in an increasingly fraught, chaotic industry, there have been hints that the show's return could expand beyond Hollywood, with Rogen being spotted in Venice. There's lots of fertile ground to explore between film festivals, press junkets, and more, without counting current events that have happened between seasons and could shape the next chapter.
