Does this prove that electric sports cars don't have to be excessively heavy?
. So far, it has seemed like it takes billions of dollars and at least half a decade to get an EV project off the ground, but now point of entry is far lower, allowing for more and more startups and tuners to get involved in the EV market. The latest ventures is the all-new Caterham Project V all-electric sports coupe, which is unlike anything the U.K. company has done before.
"A Caterham Seven's design is simple and minimalist, it's designed for its intended function, to be lightweight and fun to drive. With Project V, we're applying this philosophy to the sports coupé architecture to create a seducing and timeless silhouette. Every single feature has to justify itself from a weight perspective to maintain lightness and optimize driver engagement.
Company reps are firm that Project V is just a concept for now, but they've set up themselves for a future with production in mind. It's possible the new EV sports coupe comes to market by the end of 2025 or in 2026, with a targeted price around £80,000, or roughly just over $100,000 at current exchange rates. It's unclear if the U.S. market is in mind for Caterham at this time, but we'd love to go for a spin .
