Bermuda has been placed under a Hurricane Watch and a Tropical Storm Warning as Hurricane Fiona is expected to approach the archipelago from late Thursday into early Friday.
Hurricane Fiona will continue to strengthen through Wednesday night and is forecast to remain a powerful Category 4 hurricane into Friday as it moves toward the north or north-northeast., Hurricane Fiona could approach Bermuda from late Thursday into early Friday, although the center of the hurricane is predicted to remain west of the archipelago.
Fiona is expected to continue north or north-northeastward beyond its close brush with Bermuda and threaten the Canadian Maritimes over the weekend. Computer forecast models suggest Fiona could remain a strong storm system despite moving over cooler waters. The FOX Forecast Center warned hurricane-force winds , significant storm surge and heavy rainfall are possible this weekend.Even though Hurricane Fiona will stay hundreds of miles east of the U.S. East Coast, its indirect impacts will be felt along the Atlantic beaches from Florida to Maine.
Swells from the Category 4 hurricane are expected to arrive at some beaches on Wednesday and intensify through the end of the workweek.
