Having made his screen debut in the video for the Chemical Brothers' 1995 single Life Is Sweet, Jonathan first arrived on our screens in Casualty when Sam turned up at Holby City Hospital's A&E ward in 1996 for an interview.Openly gay, Sam was involved in several personal and work dramas connected with his sexuality, including finding out that a female car crash victim was secretly dating his boyfriend.
Jonathan played Sam across four seasons of Casualty, but was eventually written out in 1999, with Sam deciding he wanted to try something other than nursing. Other Casualty stars such as the legendary Derek Thompson, who played Charlie Fairhead, have spent much longer in the TV series, with Derek only recently quitting after 37 years.
In 2007 Jonathan decided to quit , going on to feature in TV shows including US crime drama NCIS and BBC drama series In The Club, as well as the movies Diana – alongside Naomi Watts, who played the late Princess of Wales – and The Somnambulists.
