Casio has unveiled a new watch as part of its 2025 collection, embracing a vibrant and bold pink aesthetic reminiscent of the iconic Barbie doll. While not as rugged as the Impala x Barbie Lightspeed inline skates, the GMA-S110BE , as this Barbie edition will be known, exemplifies the essence of pink femininity.

Based on the popular GMA-S110 watch, a smaller iteration of the industrial-style GA-110 launched in 2010, the Barbie edition boasts a watch face that utilizes layers of small components to create a three-dimensional design. Each component showcases a distinct shade of pink, along with subtle thematic variations. A Barbie logo graces the 3 o'clock position, while a heart motif indicator adorns the inset dial at 9 o'clock. The logo returns on the matching pink strap, and the case back features Barbie's signature side profile silhouette.Beyond the Barbie theme, the watch retains all the functionalities of a regular GMA-S110. It's a blend of digital and analog displays, offering 29 time zones across 48 cities. Equipped with a shock-resistant structure and 200-meter water resistance, it also provides five daily alarms, a 1/1,000-second stopwatch and countdown timer, and an auto LED light. This Barbie-themed G-Shock joins a trio of other pink-hued G-Shock watches launching this year: the GMA-P2100PP, GMD-S5610PP, and the GMA-S140PP. Casio isn't alone in embracing pink in 2025. Oris has introduced the ProPilot X Miss Piggy Edition, featuring a vibrant pink watch face inspired by the Muppets diva, complete with a caseback spyhole revealing Miss Piggy's glamorous portrait. Bremont has also launched the Terra Nova 38 in a striking bubblegum pink, limited to 250 pieces.Whether this enduring fondness for pink stems from the Barbie effect, 18 months after the movie's release, remains to be seen. However, Casio clearly hopes that the Barbie brand still holds significant appeal. Danielle Thom, curator of the Design Museum's Barbie exhibition, believes the brand's cross-generational allure is timeless. 'A key reason for Barbie's appeal as a collaborator is the longevity of the brand, having been a dominant cultural presence since 1959,' she tells WIRED. 'Rightly or wrongly, Barbie is also associated with a well-defined set of assumptions and values—femininity, accessible glamour, empowerment, and friendship. Any brand collaborating with Barbie can expect some of that magic to transfer over.
