According to a newly acquired schedule of appointments, Frank Carone — a millionaire who serves as the chief of staff to NYC Mayor Adams — regularly met with a parade of lobbyists and politicians while conducting business at an exclusive Manhattan club.

Frank Carone serves as Mayor Eric Adams' chief of staff. In the six months since being named the mayor’s chief of staff — a gatekeeper to the most powerful politician in New York City — Frank Carone regularly met with a parade of lobbyists and politicos, and conducted city business at an exclusive Manhattan club, according to schedules reviewed by Gothamist.

Carone, a self-made millionaire, once served as a partner to the Abrams Fensterman law firm — which often has business before the city — until he was appointed to the leadership post in city government, playing a central role in policymaking. According to the, Carone is part of the mayor’s leadership team and oversees 13 divisions within city government, including the intergovernmental affairs, international affairs, and appointments divisions.

The substance of those appointments varied month by month and followed the ebbs and flows that come with the work of a chief of staff, though a daily staple was his 8:30 a.m. COVID-19 briefing. While some meetings focused on specifics, the subjects of other meetings were vague and often characterized as simply “meeting with Frank.”

“I have not given any indication one way or another that we’re against any of those locations nor that we are for any of those locations,” Carone said in a telephone interview on Friday.
