Cashius Howell combines explosiveness, athleticism, and natural power to physically dominate as a pass rusher.: Howell explodes off the line of scrimmage at the snap, which gives him an advantage to win both as a pass rusher and a run defender.
: Howell has shown the ability to line up in multiple alignments, from interior alignments to outside the tackle, throughout his career and be effective. He can also rush the passer from either side of the line. : Howell is a high-motor, high-energy player who appears to have the right temperament to be a tone-setter as a defensive player.: Howell has the strength as a pass rusher to consistently win with power, and the strength in the run game to set a defined edge and stop ball carriers on an outside track.: Howell often relies heavily on his initial move to win and needs to approach his pass-rush sequence with the thought that there may be an opportunity to utilize his counter moves to win the rep.: Howell looks uncomfortable at times when asked to drop into coverage. This could be attributed to a lack of reps. He needs to be coached on keys and technique dropping into coverage against the pass. Cashius Howell is a redshirt senior prospect who originally began his career at the Group of Five level at Bowling Green University before transferring to Texas A&M ahead of the 2024 season. Throughout his career, Howell has used his raw strength and power, paired with impressive athleticism, to become a highly productive and physically dominant edge rusher who excels both against the run and as a go-to sack artist when rushing the quarterback. As a pass rusher, Howell displays a detailed and well-defined rush plan that sets the stage for him to win in multiple ways. At the snap, Howell is explosive off the line of scrimmage and utilizes this explosiveness to establish his approach as a rusher. With his speed, he can win around the corner using a dip, bend, and rip move to turn the edge and flatten toward the quarterback. Howell consistently dictates the tempo of the rush sequence, using his speed to force offensive linemen to either overset or underestimate his burst. He also uses a variety of counter moves, working upfield before redirecting and crossing face to take the inside track to the quarterback. Howell possesses an extensive arsenal of pass-rush moves, including a cross-chop, club, spin move, and a speed-to-power conversion that collapses the pocket. Overall, Howell has all the physical tools necessary to develop into a dominant pass rusher at the NFL level, with the upside to be a consistent double-digit sack producer. Against the run, Howell has the strength to set the edge efficiently and consistently. Lined up on the perimeter, he works upfield and shoots his hands into blockers, anchoring to hold the edge of the defense. Howell understands the importance of maintaining outside leverage and forcing ball carriers back inside toward the pursuit of the defense. On the backside of plays, he shows the ability to shoot gaps and chase down ball carriers, often making impactful tackles in pursuit. Howell’s biggest area of improvement is triggering and executing his counter moves more frequently. Because he possesses plus-level strength and power, he often wins with his initial move around the edge or by converting speed to power. However, at the next level, he will need to rely on his counters more consistently as he faces NFL linemen who are quicker, stronger, and more technically sound at preventing rushers from winning the edge.
