Pa.'s U.S. senators are first and third among Senate Democrats when it comes to the percentage of their staffs that identify as LGBTQ, according to recent survey.
Pennsylvania’s two Democratic U.S. senators have the highest and third-highest percentage of LGBTQ staffers in the caucus, according to a newly released survey.of their members’ offices found that 30% of Sen. Bob Casey’s staff identifies as LGBTQ, while Sen. John Fetterman’s staff was pinned at 28% LGBTQ, good for third place.
West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, a conservative Democrat who is being courted as a potential third-party presidential candidate by the No Labels group, had the lowest ranking, with no LGBTQ staff . “At a time when the LGBTQ community is under constant threat from extremists and the courts, I’m proud to have a team that is made stronger because of the life experiences and perspective this community brings to it,” Fetterman said in a statement to PennLive.
Then-Lt. Gov. John Fetterman displayed flags on the balcony of his office at the state Capitol to show support for marijuana legalization and for extending the state's anti-discrimination protections to cover matters of sexual orientation and gender identity.
