House Republicans are counting on the impeachment probe to uncover damning evidence against President Biden.

“We may disagree with timing,” said Rep. Pete Sessions of Waco, one of two Texas Republicans on the House oversight panel, suggested McCarthy escalated the investigation prematurely. “I might have done it a little bit later in the process.

Within a day of McCarthy’s announcing the inquiry – which Democrats call baseless – nearly all of the 25 Texas Republicans in the House embraced the move.Rep. Jake Ellzey of Midlothian was one of the few who expressed any hesitation, saying, “I don’t have enough information on it.”Still, he downplayed it as a preliminary step that doesn’t commit the House to seeking Biden’s removal.

One Freedom Caucus member, Colorado Rep. Ken Buck, has called the impeachment push “absurd” given the lack of evidence against Biden so far. Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., announcing Sept. 12, 2023, that he has directed a House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

. “There’s plenty of evidence, overwhelming evidence, that Hunter Biden was Joe’s bag man” – that is, collecting bribes on his father’s behalf.“That’s why you open an impeachment inquiry. You may find out more evidence,” he said.
