A CEO who wants to get an edge with technology faces pushback from a key customer and some of her team.
After seeing gen AI’s impressive capabilities demonstrated at a conference, CEO Jeannie Weiss is excited to put them work at her digital marketing firm, PulsePoint. A cutting-edge salesbot would allow her to shrink her staff while delivering more-effective and -personalized service to her clients. Two of her top executives have qualms, however—and so does her biggest customer.
“It’s so nice to feel excited about something again,” Jeannie Weiss said to John Bart, her chief technology officer. The pair were in an Uber on their way to the Austin airport after attending an AI conference together. Jeannie’s fingers tapped the sideboard of the car in time to the folk music on the radio. “I feel as if we’ve been on the defense for the past five years with Covid, the tight labor market, inflation. I’m ready to go on the offense again.
