Carrie Underwood performs onstage during the 55th Academy of Country Music Awards at the Grand Ole Opry on Sept. 13, 2020 in Nashville, Tenn.paid tribute to some of her predecessors at the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards on Wednesday night , with a medley performance of covers of classic female artists, which also acknowledged the upcoming 95th anniversary of Nashville's legendary Grande Ole Opry venue.
Underwood covered Patsy Cline's 1961 ballad standard"Crazy," Loretta Lynn's confrontational 1966 classic"You Ain't Woman Enough ," Barbara Mandrell's 1981 chart-topper"I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool," Dolly Parton's 1989 rave-up"Why'd You Come in Here Looking Like That," Reba McEntire's 1991 story song"The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" and Martina McBride's 1998 power ballad"A Broken Wing.
As Underwood performed, images of the legendary female artists were displayed one at a time on the screens in back of her -- with all six women appearing at once on the background as she hit the climactic final note of"A Broken Wing." Underwood is nominated for both entertainer of the year and female artist of the year at this year's ACMs. The Grand Ole Opry will celebrate its 95th birthday on November 28th.
The ACM Awards are produced by dick clark productions, which is owned by MRC Media, the parent company of Billboard.
