Carpentersville woman killed in fire that destroyed her home, village fire chief says

A Carpentersville woman was killed in an early morning house fire Wednesday, the village fire chief said.

Linda Norstrom, 65, was killed early Wednesday morning in a fire at her 1736 Papoose Road home in Carpentersville, officials said.

Linda Norstrom, 65, could not escape her 1736 Papoose Road home when the fire was discovered about 2:45 a.m., Fire ChiefHer husband, Robert, did manage to get out and notified firefighters and police officers that his wife was still inside. Attempts to find and save her were unsuccessful, and “succumbed to her injuries as a result of the fire,” the release said.

Robert Norstrom was evaluated by paramedics at the scene and did not require hospitalization. Family Services Association of Greater Elgin is working to find him shelter and basic necessities, officials said.The front of the house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, and the property deemed a total loss after the blaze was finally extinguished, according to the report.

The fire’s cause is under investigation by the Carpentersville fire and police departments and the Office of Illinois State Fire Marshal.
