Caroline Kennedy, daughter of former President John F. Kennedy, delivered a scathing critique of her cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s nomination for health secretary, alleging his addiction to power, unfounded stances on vaccines, and a troubling past.
Caroline Kennedy penned a scathing letter on Tuesday urging the U.S. Senate to reject her cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 's, nomination as President Donald Trump 's health secretary . In a letter obtained by the Associated Press, she labeled Robert F. Kennedy Jr. a 'predator' consumed by a thirst for power. Kennedy also asserted that her cousin's stances on vaccines are unfounded and even shared personal anecdotes from their shared childhood that she believes raise serious concerns.
She described RFK Jr.'s basement, garage, and dorm as havens for drug use, where he allegedly fed baby chickens and mice to his hawks. The Washington Post was the first to report news of the letter.Kennedy's letter detailed disturbing accounts of RFK Jr.'s past, including his open discussions about heroin use and a 1984 conviction for bringing the drug onto an airplane. She accused him of now 'preying on the desperation of parents of sick children,' noting that he has vaccinated his own children while discouraging others from doing the same. Citing the letter, the AP reported that Caroline Kennedy also highlighted RFK Jr.'s plans to continue profiting from a lawsuit against pharmaceutical company Merck over Gardasil, its human papillomavirus vaccine that prevents cervical cancer. In 2024 alone, he earned over $850,000 from this arrangement. Kennedy concluded that her cousin is 'willing to enrich himself by denying access to a vaccine that can prevent almost all forms of cervical cancer and which has been safely administered to millions of boys and girls.' This marked the first time she had publicly addressed his candidacy or nomination for health secretary. Caroline Kennedy, daughter of former President John F. Kennedy, served as a U.S. ambassador to Australia and Japan. The Associated Press pointed out that her father's assassination in 1963 when she was a young girl, alongside the 1968 assassination of RFK Jr.'s father, Robert F. Kennedy, during his presidential campaign, added another layer of tragedy to the family's history. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. faces his attempt to become President Donald Trump's health secretary with hearings scheduled for Wednesday before both the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pension committee
