As Alabama’s rural hospitals continue to face the threat of closure, candidates in the race for a newly redrawn congressional district were asked this week how they would handle the issue.As a Democrat, Figures gave a response in line with his party -- he fully supports Medicaid expansion.
“We cannot expect people to move to rural America and take the jobs that we need to develop resources that we have in rural America if there isn’t access to health care. Part of the rising health care costs are directly attributable to inflation that has been caused by reckless government spending and crushing of American energy independence.
Now that 40 states have expanded Medicaid, and the issue of rural healthcare continues to affect Alabamians, Republican officials in some states are signaling a willingness to listen to options to expand coverage.
