AFL players and coaches might have a week off for the pre-finals bye, but there was no rest for Carlton coach Michael Voss on Tuesday morning.
Staff at Barton Milk Bar in Hawthorn confirmed that Voss was getting coffee when he bolted out to chase after a teenager in an allegedly stolen car that had flipped.Voss, a Brownlow medallist known in his playing days with the Brisbane Lions as a hardened midfielder with an unflinching attack on the ball, reportedly tackled the teen and held him until police arrived.Police confirmed they arrested a 16-year-old Mooroopna boy after he tried to flee from an allegedly stolen Mercedes-Benz.
He said he had spoken to police, but wouldn’t confirm any specific details about the incident or his involvement.She said she hadn’t heard the car coming. “We can confirm he is completely fine, unharmed, and provided a full statement to police, given he witnessed the incident,” the spokesman said.Another onlooker, who contacted 3AW’s Jacqui Felgate, said they wanted to give Voss “a huge shout-out” for his efforts on Tuesday morning.
