Carlos Alcaraz reaches the French Open final after a five-set epic, and will face Alexander Zverev, whose domestic violence case in Germany was also resolved on Friday.
Carlos Alcaraz has reached the French Open final, coming from behind to beat second seed Jannik Sinner in a classic, 2-6 6-3 3-6 6-4 6-3.
Alcaraz became the youngest man to reach a grand slam final on all three surfaces after prevailing in a 4-hour and 9-minute epic."That's the key — even more on clay, here at Roland Garros. Long rallies. Four-hour matches. Five sets. Australian Open champion Sinner will move up to second in the world rankings despite his defeat, but was still able to find the positives."The winner is happy, and then the loser tries to find a way to beat him the next time."
It brought to mind last year's French Open semifinal when Alcaraz got off to a terrific start against Djokovic but then dealt with full-body cramps that rendered the remainder of the match anticlimactic. In the fifth set, with shadows covering more than half the court, Alcaraz moved out front by sliding until he could reach across his body to snap a backhand passing winner for a break point.
Lawyers for Zverev, who was not required to appear in court during the proceeding, issued a statement saying there was no finding of admission or guilt. The 27-year-old Zverev always denied any wrongdoing and said before the French Open began that he was not concerned about how things would go in the case.Sports content to make you think... or allow you not to.
