A cargo vessel carrying 14 crew members ran aground in the vicinity waters north of Lubang, Occidental Mindoro on Sunday night, Feb. 26.
MV Manfel V departed from Subic, Zambales en route to Bauan, Batangas when it encountered engine trouble while traversing the vicinity waters of Fortune Island around 7 p.m., according to a report from the PCG.
The vessel is skippered by Capt. Radie Brillante and operated by Manfel Cargo Shipping based in Taguig City. It has a weight of 489.72 gross tonnages. “The distressed cargo vessel drifted towards Lubang and ran aground when it reached the vicinity waters approximately 110 meters from the shoreline of Barangay Maligaya,” the PCG report noted.PCG Station Occidental Mindoro deployed search and rescue personnel to save the stranded crew members.
“The 14 crew members onboard were rescued and brought to the MDRRMO [municipal disaster risk reduction and management office] to check their health and conduct antigen tests,” the PCG report stated. The crew were all in good physical condition. Meanwhile, personnel of the PCG Station Occidental Mindoro conducted monitoring on the distressed cargo vessel “to check for any signs of oil spillage and assess possible damages to the marine environment.”
