Burrswood Care Home, rated 'inadequate' by the CQC, donated £10,000 to the Conservative Party. The home's food and drink offer was deemed 'poor' with limited choice. Inspectors found that the allocated catering budget was less than £5 per person per day, making it difficult to provide adequate meals and snacks.
A company running an 'inadequate' care home where less than £5 a day was spent on food for each resident donated £10,000 to the Conservative Party this year, it was revealed tonight. Burrswood Care Home, in Bury, has now been placed into special measures, having been rated as 'inadequate' by the Care Quality Commission after a visit in every area of its inspection.
But it's been revealed that Advinia Health Care Ltd, which runs 35 care homes in England and Scotland, has donated £10,000 to the Tories this year, according to the Electoral Commission. The Tories have accepted £38,000 from the company in total, reports The Mirror. In response, the company said political donations made were 'drawn from ring-fenced funds and have no impact whatsoever on the financial governance of individual care homes'. "To imply otherwise is misleading," said a spokesman, adding food budgets set were in line with other leading care home providers.
Alison Chilton, CQC deputy director of operations in the north, said: "When we inspected Burrswood Care Home, it was concerning to see such a significant deterioration in the quality of care being provided. Leaders need to prioritise making urgent improvements, particularly regarding how the service is run, to ensure people’s needs are properly met.
