A cardboard truck caught fire after crashing and started a wildfire in Oregon.
A tractor trailer carrying compressed cardboard caught on fire on Interstate 84 between Cascade Locks and Hood River on Tuesday night, Aug. 13, 2024. The flames spread to the forest, sparking a wildfire and prompting the closure of the freeway.
"The truck was carrying condensed cardboard, which is really dense and takes a long time to put out, so firefighters could be working for a while on the highway to try and get that put out," Davey said. Several drivers told KATU News they saw the flames start to climb up the mountainside and that traffic backups made it difficult for fire trucks to get to the scene.
