Police reported an active situation at a Michigan synagogue, prompting a large law enforcement response.
, with video showing dozens of police vehicles surrounding the scene. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said authorities were clearing the building as parents were allowed to retrieve children from an early childhood learning center inside the synagogue.
Michigan State Police's Second District, which serves Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, said it is aware of an active shooting incident that is ongoing in West Bloomfield at Temple Israel. "We are asking for community members to stay away from the area to allow for police response. Troopers are also increasing patrols at other places of worship in the district," Michigan State Police said onDirector Kash Patel posted on X,"FBI personnel are on the scene with partners in Michigan and responding to the apparent vehicle ramming and active shooter situation out of Temple Israel Synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan."that she is tracking reports of an active shooting at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield. She said her team is working with Michigan State Police to get more information. "This is heartbreaking. Michigan's Jewish community should be able to live and practice their faith in peace. Antisemitism and violence have no place in Michigan. I am hoping for everyone's safety. Thank you to law enforcement for their swift action." Temple Israel describes itself as the nation’s largest Reform synagogue, with about 12,000 members, and operates educational programs for children, families and adults. TheFederation of Detroit advised Jewish organizations in the area to go into lockout protocol, instructing that no one enter or leave their buildings.
