A car bomb exploded near the police academy in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Thursday evening, police said, the latest in a string of attacks in the city.
Shabelle News said initial reports say at least one person was killed and seven others wounded in the car bomb explosion. The wounded were rushed to hospital by local ambulance services. Only hours earlier the police had warned the public against a suspicious car bomb in the capital and urged residents to be more vigilant. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.
Dozens of people were killed in a number of car bombs during March alone, most of them believed to have been carried out by the militants. Somalia has been ravaged by civil war since 1992, when tribal warlords ousted dictator Mohamed Siad Barre before war broke out.
