A man is dead after a car veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into an 18-wheeler on Friday morning, shutting down part of Loop 410 on the Southwest Side for hours. As of noon, a 5-mile stretch of Loop 410 's northbound lanes remained closed from near Old Pearsall Road to close to U.S. 90, according to Texas Department of Transportation's traffic map and cameras.
More shutdowns planned at Loop 1604 and I-10 this weekend. Traffic was routed onto the access road as San Antonio police examined the scene and crews worked to clear the wreckage. The deadly accident occurred before 8:30 a.m. Friday in the 6200 block of Southwest Loop 410 at Medina Base Road. A car was heading south when it drove into oncoming traffic. It crashed into the 18-wheeler, becoming stuck under the wheels. The car then split in two and burst into flames.
