Michelle Mann Considered one of the South’s top watercolor artists, Jack Clouse DeLoney was born and raised on a cotton farm in Ozark. After nearly half a century of painting hundreds of agricultural and wildlife scenes, he “officially” retired in 2012, closing his Ozark gallery located in “The Verandas” on U.S. 231 located near the “home cooking” restaurant his family owned for decades.

Because he needed to be quarantined immediately, DeLoney was sent to his grandparents’ home on Broad Street. “I was basically paralyzed at the time,” he said. Later he was taken to Warm Springs, Georgia, site of the country’s premier polio treatment facility. In 2006 DeLoney authored “Here at Home,” a 96-page, coffee-table style book that tells the stories behind more than 100 of his most popular paintings. “This book was a 20-year dream of mine,” he said. “One of my hopes is my work will live on and be enjoyed for generations to come.”
