T.J. Oshie played his 1,000th NHL game March 16 in Vancouver. Two weeks later, John Carlson did the same against Boston at home.

A decade ago, when T.J. Oshie made himself a household name with a star turn inA lot has happened since those first flashes of stardom — for both players.

“For him to go out and really be an American hero after not playing huge minutes, that’s what made it even more impressive and probably the part of the story that people don’t talk about enough,” Pacioretty recalled. “A memory that I’ll always remember and, when people talk about that situation and that experience, I’m proud to say that I was there for it. … That feeling after the game is one of the best I’ve ever had. So happy for him in that situation.

“I remember telling him,” Alzner said, “ ‘If you have that opportunity, man, it’s so much fun. You’ve got to go.’ ”Carlson went, was an alternate captain for the Americans and turned in a point-per-game performance. But the moment that will always be the highlight is his overtime winner in the gold medal game, which ended Canada’s streak of five consecutive golds and launched Carlson into a different level of acclaim.
