As Capetonions, we couldn't be more thrilled to see one of our own representing us on an international stage. Micaela Kleinsmith, a singer from Cape Town, recently won a country music TV show based in Nashville and aired on Apple TV:
, Growing up, Kleinsmith watched singing competition shows and yearned for a chance to perform on stage. She taught herself about vocal attack and range, which eventually earned her a spot on M-Net’s Idols on Mzansi Magic during season 12 when she made it to the group rounds.
As a child, Micaela was the target of heavy bullying. To cope with this, she turned to music as a means of escape. When she realized she had a gift for singing, she used it as a way to connect with others and make new friends. Having begun writing songs at the age of 14, she steadily grew in her craft as an artist. Her hard work and dedication have now paid off, as she emerged victorious in a global competition backed by Reese Witherspoon and executive produced by multi-Grammy Award-winning star, Kacey Musgraves.shattered the barriers in country music, by offering an extraordinary opportunity to diverse artists worldwide, to showcase their talent on a global platform.
Scouts Jimmie Allen, Mickey Guyton, and South Africa’s Orville Peck personally selected a roster of gifted and diverse artists from across the globe. These artists were invited to the heart of country music, Nashville, Tennessee, to showcase their unique sound and compete for the top prize. Orville Peck originally championed Micaela, whose incredible vocals and evident growth as an artist throughout her journey on, was recently released through Platoon on Apple Music, featuring three of her original songs, namely
