Byron Davids was sentenced earlier this week for killing Denzil Thorpe in September last year.

A 28-year-old man was sentenced to 18 years behind bars by the Wynberg Regional Court for killing a 37-year-old man who allegedly impregnated his girlfriend, Western Cape police said in a statement on Friday.Davids was arrested and found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on the same day as the murder, and was also sentenced to 15 years for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and two years for the possession of ammunition. The three sentences will be served concurrently.

Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula commended Sergeant Xhanti Neti of Steenberg Detectives for his investigation and contribution for removing an armed criminal from the Steenberg streets.
