Cape Town gets more cops, lifeguards, and firefighters in time for the summer holidays

Cape Town is expecting an influx of both local and international tourists this summer following two subdued holiday seasons with pandemic-induced restrictions.

Around 600 lifeguards will patrol beaches and pools, while up to 235 firefighters will be on call 24 hours a day.The City of Cape Town is gearing up for a busy summer season, the first in two years without pandemic-induced restrictions, and says it is focused on keeping visitors safe. But for Cape Town to capitalise on the summer rush – and create return visitors who will sustain the tourism sector's growth beyond recovery levels –, according to James Vos, the City's mayoral member for economic growth and tourism.
