Canon introduces the Pixma Pro-200S and imagePrograf Pro-310, offering photographers high-quality photo printing at home. Both printers share similar features but differ in ink systems and print quality.
Canon recently unveiled two new 13-inch wireless inkjet photo printers, the Pixma Pro-200S and the imagePrograf Pro-310, designed to cater to photographers seeking high-quality photo printing at home. While these printers share a striking resemblance and several key features, they diverge primarily in their ink systems and the promised print quality. The Pixma Pro-200S boasts a new eight-color dye-based ink system, aptly named Chroma Life 100+ .
This innovative system promises an expanded color gamut compared to its predecessor, the Pixma Pro-200, particularly enhancing the rendition of reds, blues, and deeper black levels. Catering to photographers and visual artists, the Pro-200S enables borderless prints up to 13 x 19 inches and custom sizes reaching 13 x 39 inches for non-borderless prints. Canon claims impressive printing speeds, with an A3+ print achievable in a mere 90 seconds. The printer is equipped with a print head featuring 6,144 total nozzles and a maximum printing resolution of 4,800 x 2,400 dots per inch. It can accommodate paper up to 0.6 millimeters thick through its manual feed tray. The Pro-200S is relatively compact, measuring 38.1 x 20.1 x 64 centimeters (15 x 7.9 x 25.2 inches) with its paper tray closed and weighing 14.5 kilograms (32 pounds). It incorporates a 3-inch color LCD monitor, wireless connectivity, and seamlessly integrates with Canon's free Professional Print & Layout plugin and software. This software functions within Canon's Digital Photo Professional photo editing application or industry-standard programs like Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. On the higher end, Canon introduced the imagePrograf Pro-310, the successor to the Pro-300. This 13-inch wireless inkjet photo printer carries a price tag $300 higher than the Pro-200S. A key distinction between the two lies in the Pro-310's 10-color Lucia Pro II pigment ink system, incorporating Chroma Optimizer. This archival-quality ink set promises exceptional print longevity, resisting light damage for an impressive 200 years. While the Pro-310 excels in delivering vibrant color prints through its cyan, photo cyan, magenta, photo magenta, yellow, and red inks, it also boasts outstanding black-and-white printing capabilities thanks to its grey, photo black, and separate matte black inks. The Chroma Optimizer plays a crucial role in creating smooth reflections and eliminating bronzing effects. The Pro-310 further distinguishes itself with its print media options. While it handles the standard 13 x 19-inch paper size, it can also produce panoramic prints in custom lengths up to 70.8 inches (1,800 millimeters). In terms of usability, the Pro-310 shares many similarities with Canon's other new 13-inch printer. It features a 3-inch color LCD monitor, works seamlessly with Canon's Professional Print and Layout software and plugin, and offers convenient wireless or Ethernet connectivity to the user's computer. The imagePrograf Pro-310 has the same dimensions as the Pro-200S but weighs slightly more, about half a pound extra
