Personal photos, videos and other information posted by politicians on TikTok, Instagram, X and Facebook 'can be used to make scams or fake content more convincing' new Cabinet Office guidance warnsGeneral election candidates should think twice about posting on social media during the campaign to lessen their risk from cyber attacks and AI deep fakes designed to distort democracy, new guidance from the Cabinet Office says.
They should also more generally consider the way they use TikTok, Instagram, X and Facebook, including what they share, their account privacy settings and whether they have two-factor authentication, because personal photos and information “can be used to make scams or fake content more convincing” the guidance warns.
The shadow health secretary said at the time: “A fake video is circulating from Politics Live today. It contains words I did not use.The Cabinet Office guidance says: “Personal information can be used to make scams or fake content more convincing. Consider how you use social media , what you share, and your account privacy settings.“For creating and sharing official documents and official communications, always use official devices and/or communication, rather than your own.
