, Sommerman included the UTA Alumni Board as a current civic involvement. The school said he was on the President’s Advisory Board from 2015 to 2018.Some older aspects of his resume aren’t backed up by records. Sommerman claims he was an assistant city manager for the town of Pantego in 1981. But a records request from Koch’s campaign said he was hired as an intern in 1982 and left in 1983.

“I had asked Mr. Sommerman to work for the town full-time instead of being an intern. He agreed. His role became that consistent with the role of assistant city manager,” McDaniel said in an email. “He filled the role of assistant city manager in the final year of his employment.” Over the summer, Koch sent out an email asking for donations to his campaign that claimed Sommerman had been paid by county tax dollars to represent Jenkins.

Lauren Trimble, Jenkins’ chief of staff, said the county auditor’s office confirmed that no invoice was paid to Sommerman nor his firm partner.
