Canberra's Catholic schools say strong NAPLAN results shed further light on the benefits of a newly adopted teaching approach.
abc.net.au/news/act-naplan-scores-better-than-national-average/102766904Catholic schools in Canberra say strong NAPLAN results recorded this year are in part due to a newly adopted teaching approach. The criteria for the tests have changed, meaning the data cannot be compared with previous years
"The more practice and the more they verbalise information, the easier it is for them to be able to pull it back at different times and apply it to different situations," teacher Leah Malpas said. She said the new approach allowed teachers to adapt their methods depending on the needs of the individual students.
Deputy director-general of education strategy for the ACT Education Directorate Deb Efthmyiades said this year's NAPLAN results were a "bit different". She said the Education Directorate would know more in two or three years, when more data had been collected within the new testing system.
