The City of Canandaigua is preparing for Wednesday's potential downpours by providing sandbags to neighbors.
The City of Canandaigua and Ontario County handed out sandbags Tuesday, July 9, 2024, ahead of heavy rainfall expected in the area Wednesday. “Nobody was prepared whatsoever. Nobody saw it coming,” said Amy Goodemote, a Canandaigua native.“The basement had about three to four feet of water in it,” said Noah Forgue, who was affected by last year’s flooding. “It was pretty bad. The washers and dryers were floating. It was nuts.”“Probably like half an hour, it came rushing in,” Forgue said.
“ just good to see the local officials stepping up and making sure we have some chance to prepare this time,” said Jim Abdallah, another Canandaigua homeowner.“If they're offered, I'd come and get it. It's better to be safe than sorry,” Goodemote said.
