During the playing of the ' Star-Spangled Banner ', a large number of the predominantly Canadian crowd booed the American national anthem.
Despite the hostile reception, Ottawa-based singer Mandia bravely powered through the rendition, completing the performance to its end. The crowd's reaction was a direct response to Trump's tariffs, set to take effect on Tuesday, which have the potential to ignite a full-blown trade war between the US and its northern neighbors. Trump also announced a 10 percent tariff on all goods imported from China. Furthermore, he stated that these tariffs would not be lifted until Canada, Mexico, and China took significant steps to curb the flow of fentanyl and undocumented immigrants into the US. Canada and Mexico swiftly retaliated by imposing their own tariffs on American products.
