Can Zamir White handle being the lead RB of the Raiders if the Josh Jacobs contract situation isn't resolved before the regular season? Check out JustinM_NFL’s thoughts 👇 RaiderNation
. If general manager Dave Ziegler and Jacobs don’t solve their issues, White is capable of experiencing a breakout campaign.
Jacobs hasn’t reported to training camp since declining an opportunity to sign the franchise tag, which would pay him a fully-guaranteed $10.1 million for the 2023 campaign. The Raiders and Jacobs have remained in a stalemate since, failing to agree to a multi-year extension prior to the July 17 deadline for franchise-tagged players. The Raiders and Jacobs have few options left to reach a resolution that satisfies all parties.
White has been impressive throughout the early portion of camp. He’s showcased second-year growth as he gains increased levels of comfort withThe No. 122 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft appeared in 14 regular-season contests with the Raiders as a rookie. He was relegated to spot duty behind a dominant Jacobs, who led the league in rushing. White rushed for 70 yards on 17 carries while averaging an impressive 4.1 yards per carry.
, per Pro Football Focus. White also forced two missed tackles and accounted for three explosive gains. That means 17.6% of White’s carries went for 10-plus yards. Extrapolating that sample size to more carries insinuates White could provide the Raiders with starting-caliber play. Ziegler’s offseason actions have shown confidence in White. Despite Jacobs’ ongoing holdout, the Raiders haven’t added a single running back to their roster this summer. They rejected an opportunity to add competition to the position via the 2023 NFL Draft despite making nine total selections.
