Though the designer and her family’s Italian fashion house has dominated the award show over the past decade, she isn’t in the top spot when it comes to search.
mania. During the last 12 months, Jennifer Lopez has dominated pop culture with a starring role in a hit film; new music; a buzzed-about engagement to one of the top athletes on the planet; a forthcoming Super Bowl halftime performance; and, where she wore a new version of the brand’s iconic jungle dress. That dress itself has re-infiltrated the zeitgeist too.
Gianni Versace holds the fifth spot in the list, while his sister Donatella comes in at number nine. Also on the list are Coco Chanel, Diane von Furstenburg, Karl Lagerfeld, and Vera Wang. While Tom Ford has certainly suited up many of the male musicians on the Grammys red carpet in the past , it’s surprising that a Grammy mainstay like Versace fell behind more sparsely worn designers like Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, and Betsey Johnson.
Still, some of the biggest fashion moments at the Grammys belong to the house of Versace. Remember Nicki Minaj’s Medusa-emblazoned cape in 2014? Or what about Taylor Swift’s provocative-for-her tube-top-and-underwear-skirt combo in 2016? Even if Versace didn’t make the cut in search during the last several years, there’s no doubt that come Sunday most people watching the Grammys will be re-Googling the most Googled dress of all time.
