Look toward the southeast this evening for the waxing gibbous moon, posing next to the hindquarters of Leo, the lion. Leo’s backside is marked by three stars, with the brightest, Denebola, pinning down the feline's tail. By Friday and Saturday evenings the moon glides past the bright blue star Spica. On Saturday, the Pink Moon will appear to rise in the east soon after your local sunset.
While not appearing pink itself, April’s full moon takes its name from a type of early springtime blooming wildflower called creeping phlox or moss pink. Early risers at dawn Sunday will see Jupiter, Venus, Mars, and Saturn above the southeastern horizon. —When we’re young sometimes we can question whether we’re doing something that matters.
