A forum post discusses whether Ohio State alumnus Cam Heyward has done enough to earn a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Ohio State is currently tied for 4th for most Pro Football Hall of Famers. Our next likely candidate, Cam Heyward , just made his 7th Pro Bowl, and is a strong candidate to earn his 5th All Pro (4th First Team or 2nd Second Team). He currently has 88.5 career sacks, just a hair below the mythical 90-sack demarcation for HOF DTs (only three DTs with 90+ career sacks have failed to make the HOF, and Cam has more Pro Bowls than all three of these DTs combined).
The question is, has Cam already done enough to make the HOF, or does he need another few pieces on his resume to be a likely pick. His strongest comparisons seem to be Kevin Williams, who finished his career with 63 sacks, 6 pro bowls, and five first team All Pros, and La Roi Glover, who finished his career with 83.5 sacks, 6 Pro Bowls, and four All Pros. My sense is that both of these candidates are considered possible HOFs but nowhere near locks. Geno Atkins, who finished his career with 8 pro bowls, 3 All Pros, and 75.5 sacks, and Fletcher Cox, who finished his career with 70 sacks, 6 Pro Bowls, and 4 All Pros seem to be considered unlikely candidates for the HOF (with Cox's Super Bowl championship helping his cause). My Scarlet-colored glasses tell me that Heyward is in, but is nowhere near first ballot. I think that it will help that he's played his entire career in Pittsburgh, an organization that historically has gotten their stars into the HOF (as compared to, say Cincinnati). I'm interested in everyone's thoughts. This is a forum post from a site member. It does not represent the views of Eleven Warriors unless otherwise noted
