Campaign underway to build visitors center at state park entrance
The current visitor center, which is staffed by state park volunteers, is supported by the Mount Diablo Interpretive Association, whose main goal is to provide visitors with information, according to the center’s website.
The new 1,500-square-foot education center would include a large outdoor pavilion and expanded indoor space to house permanent and rotating exhibits. The Mitchell Canyon entrance is on Mount Diablo’s northwest side, about a mile from Clayton. Mitchell Canyon attracts 35,000 visitors per year.
